Unless your mail server provides filtering, you probably get a ton of junk mail and adult-content messages. You can use Outlook's junk mail and adult-content filters to color the messages you receive so these kinds of e-mail are easier to identify.
Outlook provides an easy means to add addresses or complete domains to the filter list. Click the Organize button on the toolbar or choose Tools | Organize to open the Organize pane. Click Junk E-Mail and then click the Click Here link. Click either Edit Junk Senders or Edit Adult Content Senders, depending on which you want to change. Enter the e-mail address or specify an entire domain. For example, if you enter xxx.com, all messages from that domain (regardless of the sender) will be filtered.
The filter entries for both lists are stored in the same file, Filters.txt, located in the Office program folder (which is \ Program Files\ Microsoft Office\ Office\ 1033 by default for English installations). You can modify the list to add or remove entries and further refine filters. Modifying the filters gives you more flexibility in specifying the conditions for filtering.
To make a modification, open the file in Notepad and make the desired changes. You can use multiple conditions separated by AND or OR to filter messages. For example, you might create an entry that filters the message if it has a certain phrase in the subject and is from a particular address or domain. After you modify the file and save it, restart Outlook.
If you want to delete the messages or move them to another folder rather than just coloring them, open the Rules wizard (Tools | Rules Wizard) and create a rule with a condition that specifies that the message belongs to the Adult Content Senders or Junk Senders list. Choose whatever action you wish for the rule, whether moving the messages to a different folder, deleting them, etc. |
