Export GAL contacts to another program

Occasionally you might find it useful to be able to export the Global Address List to another program, such as Excel or Access. Because the GAL is really a query and not an actual collection of objects, there is no direct way to export from Exchange Server. However, you can use Outlook to export the list:

1. Open Outlook and temporarily move all of your contacts to a different folder.

2. Open the Address Book and open the Global Address List.

3. Select all of the entries, right-click, and choose Add to Contacts.

4. Open the Contacts folder and export the entries using File, Import and Export.

5. Delete the GAL entries from the Contacts folder and move all of your original contacts back to the Contacts folder.
